Solveig Enoksen is a Norwegian marine biologist with a keen interest in marine mammals, especially seals. She did both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Biology at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway, writing her Master’s thesis on the diet of hooded and harp seals in collaboration with the Institute of Marine Research.
Solveig has worked at the Arctic exhibition centre Polaria for about seven years, where she gets to do some of her favourite things: talk a lot about seals and hang out with the resident bearded and harbour seals. Solveig is also a PADI Divemaster and has done volunteer work for Marine Conservation Philippines. Despite there being no seals in the Philippines, she still made sure to give lectures on seals as well as other marine mammals while there. She has also given lectures on marine mammals and other marine biology subjects while working as a teacher at various schools in Tromsø.
Solveig joined NAMMCO as an intern in June 2018 and is now the Scientific & Communication Assistant of the NAMMCO Secretariat.
Besides her work, Solveig has been doing and teaching judo for more than half of her life, and she has just started up a new judo club in Tromsø. She loves nature photography and travelling, and she has travelled extensively in Asia on her own. Solveig also enjoys outdoor activities like mountain hiking, kayaking, and of course scuba diving.
