16 February 2023: Report of the 29th Meeting of the NAMMCO Scientific Committee now available

The 29th meeting of the NAMMCO Scientific Committee (SC) was held from the 23 to the 26 of January 2023 at the Greenland Representation in Copenhagen, under the leadership of Chair Aqqalu Rosing-Asvid (Greenland) and Vice-Chair Sandra Granquist (Iceland). Attending the meeting were scientists from all four NAMMCO countries, as well as observers from Japan.

This was the first in-person meeting of the Scientific Committee since 2019. Among the items discussed were the reports of the Working Groups on By-Catch (BYCWG), and harbour porpoise (HPWG), and the Joint NAMMCO-JCNB Disturbance Workshop (JDWS). In addition to discussing these reports, the SC also provided an overview of ongoing projects and scientific activities performed by committee members and yielded a list of principles for the incorporation of a precautionary approach in the management of cetaceans and pinniped stocks within NAMMCO.
