SC 25 Update: November 19th, 2018
The 25th meeting of the NAMMCO Scientific Committee concluded on Friday afternoon with the review and acceptance of the draft report.
The meeting was held aboard the MS Polarlys from Bergen to Tromsø, under the chairmanship of Tore Haug.
Attending the meeting were members of the four NAMMCO countries, as well as observers from Canada, Japan and Russia. Among the items discussed were reports from recent working groups, results from marine mammal population assessments, and updates on project developments for the future. Maintaining NAMMCO’s commitment to a sustainable future demands that its scientific advice is drawn from experts in the fields of marine mammal biology, ecosystem management, and population modelling. All members of the SC greatly to the every-growing body of knowledge used in marine resource management and conservation in the North Atlantic.
Following arrival in Tromsø, there was a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the SC, with thanks given to the people that have made the work of NAMMCO possible over the years.
Pending final additions and corrections, the final report is eagerly awaited and will be released shortly!
