01 August 2023: Report of the Panarctic Bearded Seal Workshop now available

The NAMMCO Panarctic Bearded Seal Workshop (BSWS) was held online from the 21st to the 23rd of March 2023, co-Chaired by Peter Boveng (NOAA Alaska Fisheries Science Center) and Christian Lydersen (Norwegian Polar Institute), and with 31 participants from Iceland, Greenland, Denmark, Canada, Ukraine, Norway and the USA.

The Workshop aimed at reviewing new information on bearded seals to assess the status and trends of the species throughout its range and identify threats and critical knowledge gaps. Preliminary management zones for bearded seals were delineated, emphasizing the importance of considering multiple lines of evidence based on population genetics, tracking and vocalization studies.
