14 June 2024: First MINTAG deployments of 2024!

We are very excited to announce that the first whales of the 2024 MINTAG test season were tagged by the team Norway!

During the summer of 2023, 19 minke, fin, humpback and killer whales were tagged with V0b fin and minke whale tags in the North Atlantic and North Pacific by four different groups.

The Steering Group worked hard on developing an improved MINTAG prototype, V0c. Thirty V0c tags will be deployed over the summer 2024 by Iceland, Japan, and Norway. Team Norway kicked off the tagging season with the tagging of one minke whales and one fin whale, with very promising and exciting results so far. More tagging is scheduled during the cruise starting on June 19th, led by Steering Group member Martin Biuw.
