15 January 2025: New review explores climate change impacts on marine vertebrate migration in Arctic and Subarctic ecosystems
A recent review by Kuletz and colleagues, titled “A review of climate change impacts on migration patterns of marine vertebrates in Arctic and Subarctic ecosystems”, was published in Frontiers in Environmental Science in October 2024. This paper examines how warming temperatures, changing sea ice conditions, and shifting prey availability are altering the migration patterns of marine vertebrates, including fish, seabirds, and marine mammals.
The review highlights the wide-reaching consequences of these changes, from disruptions in predator-prey relationships to potential competition between species in newly overlapping areas.
