17 September 2019: Meet our new intern

We are lucky enough to have two interns at the NAMMCO Secretariat this autumn! Bartal Kamban commenced his internship yesterday and he will stay with us at our office in Tromsø for three months.

Bartal is Faroese and has a Masters in European Ethnology from the University of Copenhagen. One of his main interests has been cultural heritage in contemporary societies, and he has conducted fieldwork with particular focus on Pilot Whaling in the Faroe Islands in relation to pollutants and contamination, as a local food source and in relation to pro- and anti-whaling communities.

During his studies, Bartal finished a 10 month Erasmus exchange program at the University of Iceland in Reykjavík studying Icelandic culture, nature, art and language. As part of his exchange to Reykjavík he also underwent an internship at the representation of the Faroes in Reykjavik where he gained insight into North Atlantic cooperation and policy-making in a political and cultural context.
