20 December 2024: New reference for pinniped abundance estimates in the North Atlantic

A new note by Metić and Garagouni, titled “Estimates of Pinniped abundance in the North Atlantic of relevance to NAMMCO”, has been published in the NAMMCO Scientific Publications series.

This work provides a tabulated overview of abundance estimates for pinniped species (seals and walruses) in the North Atlantic from 1964 to 2023. It summarises in one place all the abundance estimates for different management areas, as well as the types of surveys, models, and bias corrections used to calculate population sizes. This document aims to serve as a handy reference point for researchers and the public alike.
