February 13: Report of the 30th meeting of the NAMMCO Scientific Committee now available

The report of the 30th meeting of the NAMMCO Scientific Committee (SC)  is now available!

The SC met for the 30th time on 22–26 January, in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland, led by Chair Aqqalu Rosing-Asvid (Greenland) and Vice-chair Sandra Granquist (Iceland). Scientists from all four NAMMCO countries attended (online and in person), including two new SC members, Sascha Schiøtt (Greenland) and Ulf Lindstrøm (Norway). The meeting was observed by representatives of the Institute of Cetacean Research (Japan) and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (Canada). A guest presentation by Filipa Samarra provided insights into the cetacean research done in Vestmannaeyjar.

Participants discussed the work accomplished by 7 (!) Working Groups and 2 Workshops during 2023, as well as the progress of the MINTAG and NASS 2024 projects. A new technical Working Group on Genetics was also formed, aiming to ensure that the best genetic advice is included in NAMMCO stock assessments.
