September 10, 2018: Follow tagged pilot whales in the Faroe Islands!

Map: © The Faroese Museum of Natural History

The Faroese Museum of Natural History is currently tagging pilot whales. The project began in 2000, and aims to map the distribution of pilot whales around the Faroe Islands. On September 5, in Bø, Vágoy, four whales out of a pod of 12-15 animals were tagged. This is very good news, as knowing the pilot whales’ distribution will help in their management.

You can find some pictures from the tagging here, and follow the movements of the four tagged whales here.
