Florence Rappin is NAMMCO’s new intern during 2026-2027. Originally from France, Florence is returning to Tromsø, where she previously completed her master’s thesis. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Marine Sciences from Aix-Marseille University in France and a master’s degree in Marine Biological Resources from Ghent University in Belgium. Her interest in marine biology began with exploring the marine food web, from plankton to whales, and gradually developed into a particular focus on cetaceans, bioacoustics, and conservation.

After her studies, Florence became involved in citizen science and in finding ways to connect people and communities with marine wildlife. She has worked on cetacean monitoring, outreach, and bioacoustics projects in both New Zealand and France.

At NAMMCO, she is looking forward to discovering how scientific knowledge can support practical conservation and inform decision-making. She hopes to gain a broader understanding of how science, policy, and the different people involved in marine conservation can work together, while contributing to sustainable management of marine resources.

Outside of work, she loves exploring the outdoors although she admits that when the weather gets too challenging, she is equally happy staying inside with her crochet, with the hope to finally finish her first blanket during her time in Tromsø!
