10 March 2025: The Report of the February meetings of the Committee on Inspection and Observation and Committee on Hunting Methods are now available!

NAMMCO has released its February 2026 committee reports from the Committee on Inspection and Observation (CIO) and the Committee on Hunting Methods (CHM), chaired by Guro Gjelsvik (Norway) and Ulla S. Wang (Faroe Islands), respectively.

The CIO met on 13 February, where members were informed that Greenland’s 2026 Observation Activity, focused on narwhal, beluga, and walrus hunts, has been postponed to 2027. New plans are now being explored and prepared to conduct an alternative observation activity in 2026. The Committee also continued developing its methodology for determining future observation priorities and reviewed ongoing efforts to strengthen communication with hunters.

The CHM met on 17 February and addressed handling of data, continued the discussion surrounding shared animal‑welfare terminology, and future hunter‑training materials. Both committees also agreed on a proposed three‑year workplan to be submitted to the Council along with related recommendations.

The full CIO report can be found here, and the CHM report here.
