18 June 2026: The report of the May meeting of the Committee on Inspection and Observation is now available!

NAMMCO has published the latest report of the Committee on Inspection and Observation (CIO) from its meeting on 21 May 2026 (CIO/2026‑02), chaired by Guro Gjelsvik (Norway).

The report provides an update on planned observation activities, noting that the 2026 observation activity is planned to be conducted on minke whaling in Norway to ensure continuity in hunting data collection efforts. The Committee also continued advancing its work on developing a structured methodology to guide and prioritise future observation activities, with the aim of making the scheme more targeted, objective, and risk‑based. In parallel, progress was made in strengthening communication and engagement with hunters and other stakeholders, recognising their key role in the implementation and success of observation scheme.

Overall, the report highlights NAMMCO’s continued effort to ensuring robust observation processes, supporting best practices, and enhancing cooperation among member countries in the monitoring and management of marine mammal hunting.
